On Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, we welcome trans individuals and their loved ones of all ages to a day relaxing at Pasado’s Safe Haven amongst nature and rescued animals.

In a world where trans people are under attack, this is a space where you don’t have to prove or explain anything. No expectations. No demands. No judgment. Just peace, nature, and the companionship of rescued animals who have also found safety and freedom.

This event invites you to explore our sanctuary at your own pace. When you arrive, we’ll greet you with a warm welcome and provide a map of our grounds before you set out for a day of peace and joy. There are no structured activities, just the opportunity to wander, breathe, and unwind.

What To Expect on Trans Day of Sanctuary

As you explore the sanctuary, you’ll have the opportunity to visit our Cow Barn and meet our rescued cows, stop by the dog park to see some of our playful canine residents, or relax with friendly, affectionate cats in Kitty City. If you’re drawn to nature, you’re welcome to take a peaceful walk on our hiking trails, listen to the sounds of the creek, or find a quiet bench to recharge. You can also spend time with our loving, gentle animals in the pig, goat, and sheep yards, where you’ll witness their unique personalities and enjoy their company. Throughout the day, we’ll provide free vegan snacks and beverages at Pasado’s House, our central event space, and our staff and volunteers will be available to answer any questions—but how you spend your time is entirely up to you.

We are committed to making this event as accessible as possible for all attendees. All of our restrooms are gender-neutral, and will be available throughout the sanctuary. There are plenty of quiet areas around the grounds, and we will be designating an indoor space for sensory-sensitive guests who may need a break from the event's hustle and bustle. Additionally, we have support options for wheelchair users and those with mobility aids navigating our unpaved, sometimes steep terrain.

To further support our QT2SBIPOC community, we are offering three reserved carpool spots from Seattle to Monroe to ensure safe and accessible transportation. We recognize that access to transportation can be a significant barrier for marginalized individuals, and we want to help make sure everyone who wishes to attend can do so. Those interested in offering carpool support can express interest in helping on the registration form!

At Pasado’s Safe Haven, we believe that sanctuary is more than a physical place—it’s a feeling of belonging, of being safe, of being celebrated for exactly who you are. It’s the comfort of knowing you are accepted without question, the peace of existing without expectation, and the freedom to simply be. Every day, we work to create this environment for the animals who call our sanctuary home—animals who, like so many of us, have faced hardship, uncertainty, and struggle. Here, they are no longer defined by their past but are recognized for their inherent worth and individuality.

We extend this same philosophy to people. Everyone deserves a space where they are safe, seen, and valued. On this special day, we are honored to open our sanctuary to the trans community and their loved ones, offering a place of rest, connection, and renewal. Whether you find peace in the quiet of nature, in the gentle company of an animal, or in the warmth of a shared experience, we hope you will take this time for yourself—without pressure, without demands, without judgment.

Our doors, our hearts, and our sanctuary are open to you. We can’t wait to welcome you to our safe haven.

About Pasado’s Safe Haven

Pasado’s Safe Haven was founded in memory of a beloved 21-year-old donkey named Pasado, who lived at Kelsey Creek Farm, a popular community park outside of Seattle. Known for his sweet personality and joyful, innocent presence, Pasado touched the lives of countless visitors. But on the night of April 15, 1992, his life was tragically cut short. Three teenage boys snuck into his pasture and cruelly ended his life, leaving the local community in shock and grief. Even more horrifying was the fact that the perpetrators faced minimal consequences due to Washington State’s outdated animal cruelty laws.

In the wake of this tragedy, Pasado’s Safe Haven was born. What started as a response to an unforgivable act of violence became a movement dedicated to fighting for animals who, like Pasado, deserve protection, love, and justice. Today, our nonprofit organization is committed to ending animal cruelty and creating a more compassionate world.

Located on 85 acres outside Monroe, Washington, our sanctuary is home to over 200 rescued animals — including dogs, cats, pigs, goats, sheep, cows, donkeys, llamas, ducks, and chickens — who have all found refuge after surviving neglect and abuse. For these animals, our sanctuary is more than just a place; it’s the promise of a new life. Here, they are safe. They are valued. They are free to live as individuals, surrounded by care and respect.

Beyond rescue, Pasado’s Safe Haven works to prevent cruelty before it happens. We focus on helping the most vulnerable animals — victims of abuse, companion animals in underserved communities, and those whose survival depends on legislative change. Our programs provide direct rescue and rehabilitation, legislative advocacy, spay/neuter and veterinary services, cruelty investigations, and humane education for all ages. By addressing systemic issues in animal welfare, we are creating lasting change.

But providing sanctuary isn’t just about animals. Pasado’s believes in fostering safe, inclusive spaces where all beings can experience peace, healing, and respect. That’s why we are honored to invite the trans community and their loved ones to Trans Day of Sanctuary.
