Can We Talk: Marginalized Communities

πŸ“… Tuesday, May 6, 2025

πŸ•— 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM

GSBA is proud to partner with World Trade Center on Can We Talk: Marginalized Communities, a meaningful conversation centered around empathy, inclusivity, and actionable learning. We’re especially thrilled to welcome back our very own River Teslar (she/her), GSBA’s Business Training Specialist, who will guide us through a powerful session on understanding and supporting marginalized communities.

This engaging and educational workshop explores the importance of approaching the world with empathy. River will break down the ABCs of gender, pronouns, and sexuality, while addressing the often-overlooked harm caused by microaggressions. Through her compassionate and accessible teaching style, River helps attendees connect with one another on a human level, laying the foundation for stronger, more inclusive communities.

Participants will learn how to:

Recognize and address microaggressions

Avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes

Engage respectfully with diverse identities

Foster deeper, more authentic relationships

About River:

River Teslar (she/her) is GSBA’s Business Training Specialist. She received an AA in music from Navarro College and spent four years as a pharmacy technician before finding her true home within the nonprofit sector advocating for underserved communities. In the three years River has been at GSBA she has developed the organization’s entire inclusion training curriculum and has conducted workshops for groups as large as 500 people. Participants appreciate her vulnerability, casual affect, and the open invitation to learn in a space free from shame. She is a spirited advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and delights in bringing her warmth and encouraging nature to business education and growth. As a trans woman with a background in advocacy and community work she is excited to put those skills to use for the GSBA and all affiliated organizations.

Join us for this important morning of education, reflection, and connection. Together, we can build a more empathetic and inclusive future.
