Director of Photography / Cinematographer

Red Element Studios is looking for a full time Director of Photography to join our small-but-mighty production team! Read about the role below and apply online here: https://www.indeed.com/job/director-photography-4d2fe417de1c975f

About Us:

We are a full-service production company, producing diverse video content and engaging live events. Our clients include non-profits and Fortune 500 companies alike. Our video production work spans a variety of genres and content types, from brand identity videos and commercials, to documentary-style character profiles. On the live event side, our productions include fundraising galas in hotel ballrooms, fully virtual all-hands meetings, multi-day hybrid events, and more. The two departments work closely together, and the Director of Photography role supports both.

Through all of these productions, our entire team is consistently committed to high quality work, creative collaboration, and an impactful audience experience.

When we’re not on site for load-in or show, our team works on a hybrid model–sometimes from home, and sometimes all together at our office/studio. Our building is located in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops and breweries. (In fact, there are 12 breweries within a 4-block radius!) You must be able to work full-time in Seattle for this position.

About You:

You’ve got real-world experience shooting a variety of work on productions of all different shapes and sizes, and are an absolute nerd about cameras, lighting, and gear. You’ve worked on enough sets to know that detailed preparation and great pre-pro are key to a fantastic video project or live stream.

You’re a collaborative leader on projects; you work together with Producer/Director on each production to accomplish creative and logistical challenges, and you can manage crew in your department on set.

You’re always eager to get your hands on a new piece of gear or to try a new lighting technique. If you haven’t done something before, you’re always willing to troubleshoot, test, and learn.

You’re comfortable wearing a lot of hats and being flexible. Sometimes you might be running audio, flying a drone, and setting up your own lights; other times you’re working with a rental house on a large gear list order. You’re willing to put in extra hours when needed to prep for production or strike a set and backup footage. Some projects will require a 2-3 person crew, and some will have many more than that – each one is unique and you’re able to switch which hats you put on for each project. You like thinking on your feet, rolling with the punches, and going with the flow—you pick the metaphor, the point is that you’re comfortable in fast-moving environments. When sh*it hits the fan, you’re the coolest head in the room.

You love being out of the office and on set! You are eager to take on multiple productions a week if needed, sometimes back to back, and sometimes involving travel.

You can operate independently and are organized with your time; when not in pre-pro or on a production, you’ll be maintaining and organizing gear, researching new equipment, managing footage on our server, joining pre-sales calls, and brainstorming fresh ideas for upcoming projects. If you can do some editing or color correction work in between your shoots, that’s awesome.

You’re creative, collaborative, andyou care about making each shoot 5% better than the last. Most importantly, you’re an empathetic and respectful person, who values other people and believes in the importance of kindness. You understand that we’re producing events and videos, not saving lives.
