Salary Range: $32.00/hour and up DOE, pay premium is available for multilingual fluency

OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:

The Development Department supports LifeWire’s mission through engaging, stewarding, soliciting, and retaining community relationships and private and corporate donors. The Development Department works closely with the Co-Executive Directors, Board of Directors, Services and Housing Directors, Grants and Compliance Manager, Resource Development Specialist, and Communications and Events staff, and volunteers to achieve its goals.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

Supports LifeWire in developing and managing grants for financial support through direct mail programs, donor event participation, and collaboration with LifeWire’s Grants Team. Maintains an effective, organized workflow to gather the necessary information and data needed for proposals. The Grant Writer maintains a grants calendar, determines submission priorities in collaboration with the Grants Team, researches new funding leads, writes proposals, helps to prepare reports for existing grants, and engages in site visits with donors and prospective community partners. The successful applicant will be a proficient writer. They will have experience in social justice work, funder research and prospecting, funding proposal development, grant portfolio management, and overall fundraising practices for nonprofits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write and submit grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and other supporting documents in a timely and accurate manner in close collaboration with the LifeWire Grants Team.
  • Perform prospect research for support of specific LifeWire services, general operating funds, and capital needs.
  • Write letters of inquiry, applications, reports, acknowledgment letters, and other correspondence.
  • Prepare and coordinate direct mail communications, donor invitations, recognitions, and solicitations to non-major donors.
  • Coordinate resources needed to support LifeWire’s annual and capital campaign giving efforts as set out by established goals and strategies.
  • In collaboration with the Development Director, Grants and Compliance Manager, Resource Development Specialist, and Co-Executive Directors, track donor contacts to build a record of relationships and key information as the basis for future cultivation and stewardship.
  • As a key point of contact between LifeWire’s development efforts and the community, manage information flow, coordinate scheduling of meetings and events with multiple participants, and communicate with meeting participants regarding logistics and content. Prepare meeting materials. Be present for site visits to assist with presentations to pitch the LifeWire’s proposals..
  • Coordinate development-related communications, including taking calls, responding to emails, and interfacing with donors and prospects.
  • Coordinate sponsor and table host involvement in LifeWire fundraising events.
  • Maintain an internal system for a high-performing grant program including maintaining a grant calendar with submission dates, a grant management system; identifying major foundation/corporate donors, and creating compelling grant proposals for LifeWire programs.
  • Create and maintain a series of grant templates for LifeWire, being sure to update template language to reflect changes in services.
  • Maintain effective communication within LifeWire and externally in the community to meet LifeWire needs.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other departments and programs within the agency; maintain effective communication across LifeWire staff to meet program and administrative needs. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with LifeWire staff, board, and volunteers.
  • Coordinate resources (including outside vendors, staff, and volunteers) to support development activities and solicitations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; two or more years of related work experience preferred. Work experience will substitute for education.
  • Direct and concise communication skills with an emphasis on good customer service.
  • Experience with using donor databases is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill building and sustaining positive relationships with various stakeholders, including donors, with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills and follow-through. Consistent attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Strong listening, written, and oral communication skills, including phone presence.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to the mission, policies, goals, and philosophy of LifeWire.
  • Demonstrated achievement of high-performance goals and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong ability to influence others and build a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience, skill, and willingness to work with a culturally and linguistically diverse team.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office products and specialized databases.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Attends work regularly, including scheduled work time outside of typical office hours.
