About the GSBA
GSBA is Washington State’s LGBTQ+ and allied chamber of commerce and is the largest of its kind in North America. We represent small business, corporate, and nonprofit members who share the values of promoting equality and diversity in the workplace.
GSBA: Capitol Hill specifically serves the small business needs of the Capitol Hill neighborhood, home to more small businesses than any other neighborhood in the state.
A 501(c)(6) non-profit organization, the GSBA administers all GSBA programs and partners with organizations, corporations and government entities across Washington State.
General Position Summary
The Neighborhood Safety Coordinator (NSC) will work with the Capitol Hill business community and be responsible for building relationships, outreach, coordination with key city departments and communication to the community regarding safety issues.
Job Responsibilities
a) Work in conjunction with other GSBA staff to support the safety needs of the Capitol Hill business and residential communities.
b) Identify, communicate and address public safety challenges through building partnerships among neighborhood organizations, businesses, City of Seattle Departments, and residents
c) Identify and track crime patterns and community concerns of public safety.
d) Increase the ability of the community to use city resources to decrease community-identified safety and disorder challenges.
e) Provide follow-up support to business owners who have been impacted by criminal activity, including assistance with crime reporting, coordination with the Seattle Police Department, the Seattle City Attorney's office, and the King County Prosecutor's office.
f) Develop and implement a process for data collection to help identify trends in criminal activity that can be used to support crime-specific City investigation and prosecution work, as well as influence broader crime prevention programs and advocacy.
g) Coordinate with peers in other improvement districts and neighborhood organizations within the City of Seattle.
h) Create and manage a Capitol Hill Safety messaging channel (or similar tool), to communicate and coordinate online with Capitol Hill business owners and staff.
i) Conduct twice weekly safety walks around the district and use the Find It Fix It app to report public realm issues (e.g. potholes, graffiti, vandalized public furniture, etc.).
j) Organize and maintain community-led, place-based community safety projects including community facing safety collateral, community meetings and safety socials.
k) Coordinate other neighborhood communications and events and activities.
l) Collaborate with GSBA- Capitol Hill team members to assist in developing crime prevention communication tools including crime prevention and safety manual, PowerPoint presentation, social media content and other tools as needed.
Community Relationship Building
The NSC position is tasked with developing relationships including neighborhood organizations, residents, businesses, city departments with the specific goal of addressing crime and community safety concerns. Special attention should be paid to developing strong relationships between the following entities:
- - City departments
- - Elected leaders
- - Businesses
- - Organizations
- - Safety partners and peer organizations across the city
Deliverables
Public safety events
Ongoing crime prevention assessments
Development of crime prevention communication tools
Ongoing updates in GSBA: Capitol Hill community newsletter and social media
Quarterly reports to the DON
Other duties as required

Physical Activities
Position requires talking, listening, taking meeting minutes, walking, sitting, standing, and bending. Candidate must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 30 lbs.
Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess 2 - 3 years job experience with a focus on public safety and/or public space management with experience in behavior health and or substance use disorders and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience from an accredited university in public policy/safety, urban planning, community development or public space management.
Salary range: $60,000 to 70,000 plus benefits (health, dental, vision, transportation stipend)
